On 7 November, we hosted the twelfth DIGIREAL Lunch Meeting on the topic of Innovations in esports. The world of esports is booming, fueled by innovations, tech accessibility, and thrilling competitions. How do innovations like data, AI, and wearable sensors shape the future of pro gaming?

We invited Dr. Paris Mavromoustakos Blom, Coordinator of the MindLabs Game Lab (Tilburg University), and Bram Heijligers, Lecturer Applied Data Science and Artificial intelligence (Breda University of Applied Sciences), to share insights on the latest developments shaping the esports landscape. Paris covered the link between competitive games and affective computing, diving into games like Hearthstone, Dota2, and League of Legends, and discussing data from facial expressions, player physiology, and keyboard/mouse usage. Bram discussed how BUas, Tilburg University, and Breda Guardians are optimizing esports team performance with high-quality data and new technologies, revealing what the immersive sector can learn from esports innovations.
