The main objective is to significantly advance the body of knowledge and the 'pipeline' (suite of tools) for the production and use of digital humans. This leads to highly realistic digital characters – human or human-like of cinematic quality - for entertainment and non-entertainment.
The innovation lies in the very short (re-) production time, and that the digital humans' features, behavior, and emotions can be controlled through an easy-to-use suite of AI tools. Partners already work together in this area in the project VIBE (until '22). The CHRONOSPHERE partner network works in this area based on digitizing humans through Volumetric Capturing. DIGIREAL will markedly support the consortium to plan, program, and manage the follow-up work of VIBE and CHRONOSPHERE. |
We will extend with other partners, especially in the area of entertainment and media (EPIC). We will start-up a series of use-cases where the production pipeline and avatars are evaluated and results disseminated. This links to several Lab facilities, in particular, the scan/photogrammetry studio (BUas), DAF-lab (TiU), Volumetric Capture studio in Eindhoven (Effenaar/4DRstudios), and a planned Virtual Productions studio (BUas).
We set the objective to identify and optimize the digital human production pipeline and develop new methods and tools to make this easier for future research. Within this objective, we distinguish between digital humans for entertainment in games, media and events and digital humans for non-entertainment in, for example, learning, training services and health industries. And above all, what is the ethical and societal impact of digital humans. |
